Skytrax Awards 5-Stars to Korean Air

This SkyTeam alliance member has now achieved Skytrax’s highest rating twice.

On May 12, SkyTeam member Korean Air announced that Skytrax had awarded it a five-star rating. Notably, the carrier has received this highest ranking for the second time in a row. What, though, did the airline do to earn this position?

On Korean Air flights, there are “mystery shoppers”

According to a Korean Air statement, the airline’s five-star Skytrax rating was determined after two weeks of testing by “mystery shoppers.” These spies “conducted a thorough evaluation of all services including airport check-in, lounges, transfer procedures, in-flight meals, amenities and cabin crew services.”Korean Air credits its successful conclusion to improvements made to the in-flight meals and wine selection.

Regarding food, starting in March of this year, Korean Air started offering a vegan dinner option. In addition, it has reportedly been introducing a fresh 52-wine lineup that was put together in association with famous sommelier Marc Almert. For its Prestige (business class) passengers on foreign flights leaving from Korea, Korean Air has offered an in-flight food pre-order service since January. Passengers can choose from a wider range of meal selections thanks to this method.

According to a Skytrax statement, the quality of the catering was at “a good level” in each cabin class, featuring the finest of regional Korean cuisine alongside foreign options on the relevant itineraries.

More than 300 movies have been added to the carrier’s revamped selection of in-flight entertainment. The hours of material include well-known Korean dramas, entertainment programs, and K-pop. Onboard next-generation airplanes, you can find this wide range of cuisine, wine, and entertainment. The airline continues by noting improvements to its customer support.

contemporary narrowbodies

Korean Air points out that a favorable grade could also be attributed to the comfort offered to passengers on board its narrowbody aircraft, particularly the airline’s most recent Airbus A321neos. A first for any airline in the nation, these brand-new Korean Air aircraft provide Prestige passengers with totally flat seats.

Currently, the airline only has four Airbus A321neos in service; the first was delivered in October 2022, and the most recent one arrived in April.

Korean also uses the Airbus A220-300 and the Boeing 737 MAX 8 as next-generation narrowbodies.

large-scale comfort

The fact that Korean Air offered 33 to 34 inches of pitch in economy class on widebody aircraft, according to Skytrax, was a significant contributing element to the airline’s high rating. The airline also showed off the “quality and consistency of the suites provided to customers in First Class and Prestige Business Class on long-haul flights.”

It is wonderful news that Korean Air will continue to receive a 5-Star Airline Rating in 2023. The high degree of consistency in quality that is provided to customers, with a superb onboard product across First, Business, and Economy class, along with incredibly effective and sincere personnel service, is a crucial factor in earning Korean Air its 5-Star Airline distinction.
