Stone-Throwing Incident on Phahonyothin Road Raises Alarms Over Motorist Safety

PATHUM THANI – A disturbing incident involving a stone thrown at a moving vehicle has sparked public concern over road safety on Phahonyothin Road near the Rangsit Boxing Stadium.

The case came to light after a dashcam video went viral on social media, showing a large rock striking a car traveling beneath the Don Muang Tollway, near column number 31 in the outbound lane toward Ayutthaya-Saraburi. The footage reveals the object was deliberately hurled from the central reservation of the express lane.

The victim, a 25-year-old university student, was driving with his partner from the Sai Mai area to his university around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday when the incident occurred. Initially assuming it was debris kicked up by another vehicle, the couple reviewed their dashcam footage after pulling over — only to discover it was a deliberate act by an unidentified individual.

According to the student’s partner, the rock was about the size of a fist and could have caused serious injury or a fatal accident had it struck the windshield directly.

Following the incident, the victim filed a police report along with the video evidence. Authorities have since confirmed that this is not an isolated occurrence. Multiple similar reports have surfaced, with police pointing to individuals believed to be homeless who frequently take shelter under the tollway. Officers note that while some individuals are occasionally removed, others often return shortly after.

Local residents have echoed these concerns, reporting frequent sightings of unfamiliar individuals scavenging for scrap materials in the area. A 70-year-old resident noted that these people, mostly in their twenties to thirties, often loiter on the central reservation — a potential hazard for passing motorists.

The complainant and his partner are urging government agencies to install safety barriers or fencing to prevent access to the expressway’s median, warning that without action, future incidents could result in serious injuries or fatalities.

Police say they are reviewing nearby CCTV footage to identify the perpetrator and have pledged to pursue legal action. The investigation remains ongoing.
