Tax Authority to release personal tax income data

Thai revenue tax income bangkok one Jan 11 2024

The Thai tax authority has collected over 395 billion baht (approximately US$11 billion) in personal income taxes, in addition to revenue from value-added tax and corporate taxes. The report also reveals that only about a quarter of the adult working population filed personal income tax forms, indicating that a majority of people in Thailand do not register with the tax authority.

Contrary to some internet reports, international cash transfers to Thailand are not taxed upon arrival. Concerns about the tax implications of sending money from abroad have arisen among Thai expats, but any taxes owed will be payable in the 2025 tax year, allowing time for more details to emerge. The Revenue aims to close tax loopholes and bring online sellers into the tax system by implementing new reporting rules for digital platform operators. With Thailand joining the Common Reporting System, financial institutions will now disclose transactions to fight tax evasion.
