Taxi driver fined 2000 baht for overcharging and suspended

For overcharging a Taiwanese passenger, the Land Transport Department on Tuesday fined a taxi driver Bt2,000 and suspended his license for 90 days.

Kittipong, the driver, whose last name was withheld, was contacted to meet with representatives from the department’s transport inspection division.

The driver admitted to the wrongdoing. For a trip to Bangpho MRT Station, he picked up a Taiwanese passenger at Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi province.

The fee should have been around Bt160 given the 13-kilometer route, but Kittipong insisted on charging Bt2,000 instead of using the meter.

The rider filmed the journey, the dialogue, and the driver’s unprofessional attire and uploaded it to TikTok. It became popular.

The driver was criticized for overcharging the passenger and for not donning a taxi driver uniform by internet users who commented negatively on the video.

His driving privileges will be suspended if he commits the same offenses again.

The agency encourages members of the public who witness any illegal activity by taxi drivers to report it by dialing 1584 and mentioning the taxi license plate of the offending vehicle.
