AirAsia is gearing up to launch a new route in South Asia, introducing four weekly flights between Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport and Kathmandu, Nepal, starting on October 2. The airline will operate these flights using the A320neo aircraft, which is known for its efficiency and comfort. To kick off this new service, AirAsia is offering an enticing promotional fare of just 9,990 Nepalese Rupees per trip (approximately 2,600 baht) for bookings made until August 25. Travelers can fly between October 2 and March 28, 2025, providing ample opportunity to explore the stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage of Nepal.
This new route adds more competition to the Bangkok-Kathmandu corridor, where AirAsia joins Thai Lion Air, both operating from Don Mueang Airport. Additionally, Thai Airways and Nepal Airlines operate flights from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport. AirAsia’s competitive pricing, with roundtrip fares starting at US$188 (about 6,500 baht), is significantly lower than its competitors, THAI and Thai Lion, whose fares range from US$271 to US$337.
Santisuk Klongchaiya, CEO of Thai AirAsia, expressed enthusiasm about this expansion, noting that “This is AirAsia’s 16th destination in South Asia since we resumed near full-scale operations post-pandemic. This region has tremendous growth potential, which drives us to increase flight services to satisfy the rising demand for tourism, trade, and business.”
Nepal, renowned for its multiple UNESCO World Heritage Sites, offers a wealth of experiences for travelers. Visitors can immerse themselves in the cultural wonders of Swayambhunath and Boudhanath or appreciate the historical significance of Kathmandu’s Durbar Square.
For those seeking spiritual journeys, Lumbini— the birthplace of Gautama Buddha—invites exploration. Nature lovers can revel in breathtaking mountain panoramas, with trekking adventures awaiting at Pokhara’s Annapurna Base Camp and the iconic Everest Base Camp.
With the addition of the Kathmandu route, AirAsia’s network in South Asia now comprises 16 routes, encompassing destinations like Jaipur, Bengaluru, and the Maldives. The new service promises to enhance the travel experience by offering both comfort and affordability, as reported by TTR Weekly.
Flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Flight FD182 will depart from Don Mueang Airport at 11:50 AM, arriving in Kathmandu at 2:00 PM. The return flight will leave Kathmandu at 3:00 PM and arrive in Bangkok at 7:35 PM.
