Thai Airways International Plc has reported a first-quarter net profit of 12.52 billion baht, a sharp improvement from its 3.24 billion net loss

The first quarter’s overall revenue for the flagship airline and its subsidiaries was 41.51 billion baht, up 271.2% from 11.18 billion baht during the same period previous year, according to Chai Eamsiri, CEO of the company.

The growth in revenue from increased passenger traffic and the restoration of full flight services and routes to popular destinations, including Japan, South Korea, China, Europe, and Australia, as a result of the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions in many countries, were the main factors contributing to the significant improvement.

The corporation and its subsidiaries’ combined expenses, however, were 28.47 billion baht, up from 14.35 billion baht in the same period last year. Growth in the production and transportation volumes, as well as the 9.7% higher fuel costs brought on by rising oil prices, all had an impact on this increase in costs.

Pre-tax operational profit for the airline and its affiliates was 13.03 billion baht, a significant improvement from the more than 3.17 billion baht deficit in the first quarter of 2022.

Thus, the business and its subsidiaries produced a net profit of 12.52 billion baht in the quarter as opposed to a deficit of 3.24 billion baht in the same period previous year.
