Thai police interview the 13th cyanide poisoning suspect’s husband.

Officers from the Crime Suppression Division have questioned the husband of a woman who is thought to be the thirteenth person to die from cyanide poisoning, reportedly at the hands of “Srarat,” the only suspect in a string of tragic cyanide poisonings.

The man, an immigration police officer in Bangkok, was released after around seven hours of questioning today (Thursday), and he informed the reporters that his wife passed away on November 25, 2020, just a month after giving birth to their second kid.

He claimed that his wife was in good health and acting normally, but on November 25th, 2020, his older son called to inform him that his mother had passed away after collapsing. While his wife was bleeding from the lips and had bruised fingernails when he promptly hurried home to Mukdahan to meet her, an autopsy revealed no signs of poisoning.

The officer claimed that his wife was acquainted with Srarat, alias “Am,” in 2016 and 2017, when they both participated in a money-lending scheme known locally as “share,” but the scheme ultimately failed. The officer also claimed that the two women maintained regular contact and jointly invested in online oil trading, but his wife was defrauded of 40,000 baht from the investment.

He added that he heard through his wife that Sranrat routinely begged for financial assistance from her, but he had no suspicions of wrongdoing.

The officer gave the CSD police his late wife’s smartphone today, and they later learned that she had loaned Sranrat several hundred thousand baht.

When Sranrat and the deceased victim were participants in the “share” arrangement, the woman who was questioned by CSD police today also spoke to the media, stating that Sranrat still owes her 20,000 baht.
