Airbus has signed a deal with Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) to install reclining business class seats on its fleet of 20 A320ceo aircraft, marking Airbus’ first-ever cabin retrofit for a single-aisle fleet in the Asia-Pacific region.
This project supports THAI’s dedication to improving passenger comfort and satisfaction, following the merger of its former subsidiary, Thai Smile Airways, into the main airline earlier this year.
As per the agreement, Airbus Services will manage the installation of 12 business class seats on each A320ceo. These seats, which can recline up to eight inches, will provide passengers with a more relaxed seating position. The retrofitting process is expected to begin by the end of the year.
Once completed, the A320s will be reconfigured into a two-class layout, featuring 12 business class and 144 economy seats. This change will elevate the travel experience across all cabin classes, departing from the previous all-economy class setup accommodating between 168 to 174 passengers.
By April 2024, THAI’s modern and diverse Airbus fleet will consist of 20 A320s, three A330-300s, and 20 A350-900s.
Chai Eamsiri, CEO of THAI, stated, “The addition of 20 A320 aircraft from THAI Smile Airways has expanded THAI’s route network, improved fleet efficiency, and boosted our competitiveness in the market. These aircraft will support THAI’s domestic and regional operations, enhancing seamless flight connectivity for passengers. Furthermore, the installation of reclining business class seats will enhance passenger comfort, elevating their overall travel experience.”
Cristina Aguilar, Senior Vice President Customer Services, commented, “We are excited to initiate this cabin retrofit project with Thai Airways. This partnership displays our commitment to enhancing passenger comfort and providing outstanding travel experiences. We are eager to witness these upgraded A320ceo aircraft take flight, offering passengers exceptional comfort with the new reclining business class seats.”
