Thailand Closes Down Infamous Illegal Streaming PlatformThailand Closes Down Infamous Illegal Streaming Platform

Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation (DSI), under the Ministry of Justice, has successfully dismantled INWIPTV, one of the country’s most notorious illegal streaming platforms, through cooperation with the anti-piracy coalition Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) and its Thailand-based member, True Visions.

Operating since 2012, INWIPTV (formerly FWIPTV) charged a monthly subscription fee of 300 Thai baht (€7.89) for access to a wide array of content, including US, international, and Thai programming, as well as live sports and adult content. The platform gained rapid popularity due to its low cost and extensive library, attracting a large user base both domestically and abroad. It provided a convenient alternative to traditional cable TV by using internet streaming technology to deliver content directly to users’ devices. However, its operation raised significant copyright concerns, as much of the content appeared to be sourced without proper licensing.

With search warrants in hand, the DSI carried out coordinated raids across six locations in Nonthaburi and Bangkok on September 21st. Twelve employees were brought in for questioning, and over 150 items of evidence were seized, including unauthorized signal transmission equipment, 46 servers, electronic storage devices, financial records, and numerous IPTV devices.

Larissa Knapp, Executive Vice President and Chief Content Protection Officer for the MPA, commended the DSI’s decisive action, stating, “The success of Operation DEV Shutdown against a major IPTV target in Thailand demonstrates the strength of our strategic partnerships with local law enforcement and our ACE member, True Visions.”
