Thailand’s Department of Trade Negotiations has announced the successful signing of three new free trade agreements (FTAs) this year, bringing the total to 17 agreements with 24 trading partners. The recent FTAs with Sri Lanka, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), and Bhutan are scheduled to come into effect in 2026.

The country is accelerating negotiations on several key FTAs, including those with the European Union, South Korea, ASEAN–Canada, upgrades to the ASEAN–India Trade in Goods Agreement, and the Thailand–Peru FTA. Ongoing consultations with stakeholders, both public and private, aim to maximize the benefits of these agreements. Negotiations with the EU, in particular, remain a priority. With seven rounds completed and the eighth scheduled for February 2026, progress has been made in areas such as market access for goods, services, investments, and government procurement, with a goal to conclude negotiations within 2026.

Thailand is also focusing on upgrading the Thailand–Peru FTA, ASEAN–India, and finalizing the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) in 2026. This groundbreaking digital economy framework would be the world’s first regional initiative of its kind, showcasing Thailand’s commitment to digital transformation and attracting investment.

Additionally, Thailand is exploring potential FTAs with the GCC, SACU, Pacific Alliance, and MERCOSUR, while preparing for negotiations on a reciprocal trade agreement with the United States.

From January to October 2025, Thailand’s total global trade reached USD 568.75 billion, reflecting a 12.5% year-on-year growth. Trade with 18 FTA partner countries totaled USD 337.22 billion—up 12.9% from the same period in 2024—and comprised 59.3% of Thailand’s overall trade value.
