Thailand Weather Alert: Heavy Rain, Flash Floods, and Rough SeasThailand Weather Alert: Heavy Rain, Flash Floods, and Rough Seas

The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a forecast for heavy rainfall across Thailand this Saturday, August 16, with risks of flash floods in six provinces and stormy seas in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand.

Expected Weather Conditions:

  • Widespread showers and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall are predicted, especially in the eastern regions and along Thailand’s western coast.
  • Provinces such as Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Chanthaburi, Trat, Ranong, and Phang Nga should prepare for potential flash floods and runoff, particularly in foothill, riverbank, and low-lying areas.
  • The prevailing monsoon trough in the North and Northeast, combined with a strengthening southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and Gulf, along with a low-pressure system over the lower North, are driving these weather patterns.

Mariners are advised to exercise caution, avoid stormy areas, and stay ashore in the upper Andaman Sea until August 17. Waves could reach 2–3 meters, exceeding 3 meters during storms.
