The conversion of the U-Tapao Airport into an international airport is included in the project's scope.

According to Reuters, the Thai government will start the $8.8 billion Eastern Aviation City building.

U-Tapao Airport will undergo a renovation into an international airport as part of the project.

The airport, which is situated in Rayong, will be connected to Suvarnabhumi Airport, a budget terminal, and Don Muang Airport.

An airport terminal will be a part of the 1,040ha project. According to the news agency, it will also have enough room for an aviation training facility, a free trade zone for cargo, and MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) facilities for aircraft.

According to Tipanan Sirichana, a spokesman for the Thai government, in the project's first five years, 15,600 more people will find work and the aviation sector would expand.

It is a public-private project that is anticipated to increase tourism in the area.

The U-Tapao International Airport will reportedly be built to accommodate 60 to 75 million passengers yearly.

According to Simple Flying, the global design and consulting firm One Works has been selected to develop the master plan for "Eastern Aviation City."

Additionally, the airport will have a Smart Eco Hub retail area and a Culture Village to provide entertainment for all travelers.
