The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, led by Minister Varawut Silpa-archa, plans to propose revisions to Thailand’s Child Protection Act to the Cabinet this month. The updated legislation will underscore the vital role of families and local communities in safeguarding children.
After a recent meeting of the National Child Protection Committee, Varawut announced that the draft of the revised Child Protection Act has been approved and is slated for Cabinet consideration within the current month. Implementation is anticipated immediately upon Cabinet approval.
Varawut emphasized the need to modernize the longstanding Child Protection Act to better address contemporary societal needs. The revised act aims to enhance family and community involvement in creating a safe environment for children, with a focus on accident prevention and the implementation of preventative measures and tools. The minister warned of penalties for family and community members who do not comply with the new regulations.
Additionally, the meeting endorsed the National Plan of Action for Child Protection 2023 to 2027, a strategy aligned with both the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Thailand’s 5×5 policy for addressing population challenges, as reported by Bangkok Post.
Varawut expressed confidence that the proposed amendment will establish a robust regulatory framework for safeguarding children’s well-being, thereby fostering their holistic development. He believes this will further contribute to the nation’s economic and social progress.
