Thailand’s Seven Days of Danger: 158 Deaths in Total in Four Days

The fourth day (April 14) of the Seven Days of Danger road safety campaign during Songkran (April 11th – April 17th) resulted in a total of 368 road accidents, 44 fatalities, and 368 injuries, according to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM).

In 368 accidents on April 14th, 44 people died and 368 were injured. The most (35%) were the result of driving too fast. Motorcycles were involved in 83 percent of the accidents. Between 7:00 and 8:00 PM, the majority of traffic incidents were on highways.

Bangkok, Nakhon Sawan, and Phitsanulok each had three fatalities, making them the most fatality-prone provinces. Nan recorded the most accidents and injuries, with 16 involving vehicles and 16 people hurt. Bangkok saw 12 fatalities in a total of four days, which was the greatest number of any city. Chiang Mai, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Nan all saw 45 accidents, which is the most of any city. Nakhon Si Thammarat had the most injuries, 48 total, in any one location.
