The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in Thailand is implementing policies to regain stock investor confidence and elevate the capital market. SEC Implements Policy to Rebuild Confidence among Stock Investors.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in Thailand is taking urgent action to rebuild confidence among stock investors, following recent developments involving More Return Plc. and Stark Corporation Plc. The agency aims to elevate the Thai capital market as a funding and saving destination for the public. SEC Secretary-General Pornanong Budsaratragoon highlighted the importance of fostering investors’ confidence by developing and regulating the capital market as a funding tool for businesses and a saving tool for individuals, with the goal of promoting economic sustainability.

Actions Taken Against Wrongdoers in Relation to STARK and MORE Shares.

The SEC is collaborating with the Department of Special Investigation to address the issues surrounding STARK and MORE shares on the stock exchange. Actions such as prosecution and expanding charges on wrongdoers are being taken to ensure accountability. The SEC is also communicating with investors about the progress on these matters and exploring the feasibility of setting up a fund to help those who suffered losses. A feasibility study is currently underway to determine potential funding sources, fund operation, and work mechanism.

Regulating Digital Assets and Positive Effects of Government’s Economic Stimulus.

The SEC is strengthening oversight on digital assets through the Emergency Decree on Digital Asset Businesses. Additionally, the Securities and Exchange Act is being amended to include governance of digital assets. Once the Council of State completes vetting the proposed amendment, the National Assembly will review and validate the revised bill. The SEC Chief, Pornanong, acknowledged the positive effects of the government’s economic stimulation measures on the Thai capital market, especially regarding improved profits at listed companies and transfers of these profits to investors. External factors such as interest rate hikes and currency depreciation have previously put pressure on the market.
