Toulouse Sees First Blue Airbus A330neo

The aircraft will be delivered in the summer, and ITA Airlines intends to use it for trips to Miami, New York, Sao Paulo, and Delhi.

The first Airbus A330-900 painted in ITA Airways’ new blue livery, temporary registration F-WWYO, was taken out of the hanger at the Airbus Final Assembly Line at the European manufacturer’s headquarters in Toulouse, France, on Friday. Delivery of this aircraft is anticipated for the summer.

A new aircraft is approaching.

The first Airbus A330-900 painted in ITA Airlines’ recognizable blue color will soon arrive. On Friday, the widebody aircraft was seen leaving the Airbus Final Assembly Line’s hangar. Gelindo Bordin, the first Italian gold medallist in the five-ring marathon and an Olympic champion in Seoul in 1988, is honored by having his name attached to this aircraft.

According to information from ch-aviation, ITA Airlines anticipates acquiring 17 A330neos in the future. The airline now has a fleet of 71 aircraft, eight of which are Airbus A330-200s. Whilst ch-aviation already has it listed with its delivery registration, an Irish registration EI-HJN, the first A330-900 was seen with its German registration F-WWYO.

The aircraft will be able to accommodate 291 passengers in three classes. There will be 237 economy seats, 24 premium economy seats, and 30 business class seats. That is 14% more seats than the A330-200 it will replace.

The introduction of the A330neo fleet, according to ITA Airlines, will represent a further step toward sustainability. The new aircraft will benefit from a 25% decrease in fuel usage and CO2 emissions per seat compared to earlier generations of aircraft and will be lighter, quieter, and more effective.

This aircraft is anticipated to enter the fleet in the summer and fly the company’s long-haul routes as well as new intercontinental locations.

Examining ITA’s proposed A330neo routes

ITA Airlines has already decided to use the A330neo to fly to four long-distance locations as of June 1, the anticipated arrival date.

Miami will be the first location to view the brand-new A330neos of the company, as previously reported by Simple Flying. Other A330neo destinations include Delhi, Sao Paulo Guarulhos, and New York John F. Kennedy (JFK) (DEL).

This summer, ITA has scheduled a maximum of five daily A330neo departures from Rome, with each flight departing in October and making two stops in São Paulo (flights AZ678 and AZ674), two stops in New York (AZ608 and AZ610), and one stop in Delhi (AZ770).

An update on the talks between ITA Airlines and Lufthansa

This past week, it was revealed that ITA Airways’ 2022 financial results showed a net loss of $529 million. Nonetheless, overall sales increased from $97.5 million in 2021 to around $1.7 billion in 2019. The airline did underline that their performance was in line with expectations.

The company was still in “startup status in a market that was still sluggish in the early months of the year due to the persisting COVID pandemic,” the Italian government stated yesterday. ITA’s industrial plan has been given unanimous approval by the two businesses. According to Reuters, the transaction, which may see Lufthansa buy a 40% interest in ITA Airlines, might be finalized by the middle of April.
