The government is advancing plans to allow 24-hour alcohol sales in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), aiming to stimulate investment and economic activity, with finalisation expected next month.
Public Health Minister Pattana Promphat chaired a meeting of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Committee on Friday, where members agreed in principle to ease restrictions in designated EEC zones.
According to Montien Kanasawat, the proposal would permit round-the-clock alcohol sales in two key areas—event or exhibition venues and restaurants—subject to full compliance with legal requirements. The initiative is intended to support the development of the Eastern Aviation City and enhance its appeal to investors.
A public hearing will be conducted before the proposal is formalised as a royal decree.
“Preliminary assessments indicate the measure could support economic growth, though further data will be required before final decisions are made,” he said.
Separately, the committee approved a draft announcement to maintain alcohol sales bans on five major Buddhist holy days. While the restrictions remain in place, authority to issue them will shift from the prime minister to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Committee.
He also noted that no increase in traffic accidents was recorded during the extended afternoon alcohol sales period between December 2025 and March 2026.
