The largest ever aircraft order in history would be made by Turkish Airlines.

Turkish Airlines revealed it would place an order for 600 aircraft on Thursday.

Turkish Airlines’ declaration that it will make a sizable order for 600 brand-new aircraft in June could shatter the previous record for the largest airplane orders ever. Having requested 470 aircraft (220 Boeing and 250 Airbus) in February, Air India presently holds the record.

Turkey’s large order

Turkish Airlines’ board chairman, Professor Doctor Ahmed Bolat, stated on Thursday that the airline is considering making a 600-aircraft order announcement early next month. During the upcoming International Air Transport Association (IATA) Assembly General Meeting in Istanbul, this news will be made.According to Ahmed Bolat, this deal, which will be announced with one of the major manufacturers, will include 400 narrowbody and 200 widebody aircraft. Once this order is confirmed, it will surpass all previous records for size, making a total of three record-breaking orders this year.

Air India is the current holder.

Air India placed a February order for 470 new aircraft with a market value of $68 billion. This purchase beat out American Airlines’ 2011 announcement to buy 460 aircraft from the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 families as the previous record holder.

For its short- and medium-distance flights, Air India purchased 40 Airbus A350s and 210 Airbus A320 narrowbody aircraft. It purchased 190 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, 20 787s, and ten brand-new 777X planes from Boeing.

Even more impressive is the fact that Air India’s order entirely consists of firm orders, as opposed to other carriers which split their orders between firm and options. Reports of IndiGo possibly placing an order for 500 aircraft, probably with Airbus, were published a few weeks after Air India’s announcement. There hasn’t yet been any official announcement.

further massive orders

Other airlines followed in 2011 after American Airlines’ huge buy. Billions of dollars’ worth of agreements for hundreds of airlines have been struck in the previous ten years by numerous carriers and businesses.

430 Airbus A320neo aircraft were ordered by the equity fund Indigo Partners in 2017 for four of the airlines it invests in. The current recipients of new aircraft from this order are Frontier Airlines, Wizz Air, Volaris, and JetSMART.We’re rating United Airlines’ order for 200 aircraft as modest, which seems odd considering that most airlines don’t even have that large of a fleet to begin with. A deal for 100 Boeing 787 Dreamliners with an additional 100 available was secured by the US carrier last year. This was the largest widebody order ever placed by the US. United announced that day that it was raising its firm commitment to brand-new MAX aircraft, turning 44 options into firm orders and adding another 56 to bring the total up to 100.

big 2023 order from Ryanair

A other airline revealed a new agreement for hundreds of brand-new aircraft in 2023, in addition to the sizable orders placed by Air India and probably Turkish Airlines. The airline in question is Ryanair, which announced earlier this week that it will buy 300 Boeing 737 MAX 10 narrowbodies.

There are 150 solid orders included in the $40 billion order. Since before the COVID-19 pandemic, negotiations for these planes had been ongoing but were unable to move forward since Ryanair and Boeing couldn’t agree on a price.
