Multiple new Thai airlines are preparing to commence operations as Thailand anticipates a recovery in leisure travel. With an expected influx of about 35 million foreign visitors this year, these airlines aim to cater to the growing demand. Some of the airlines set to launch include Asian Aerospace Service, Siam Seaplane, Really Cool Airlines, Avanti Air Starter, Landarch Airlines, Bangkok Helicopter Services, Pattaya Airways, Asia Atlantic Airlines, and P80 Air.
While some of these airlines will focus on regional and domestic flights, others may expand Thailand’s aviation market by potentially offering international routes. For example, Really Cool Airlines, founded by former Nok Airlines CEO Patee Sarasin, plans to begin chartered flight services in March, initially focusing on flights to Japan. The airline aims to expand to other Asian destinations such as Hong Kong, Singapore, and Shanghai within the first two years.
The Thai government is actively promoting tourism in more provinces in order to establish Thailand as a year-round destination. They have set a target of achieving one trillion baht from domestic tourism and 2.5 trillion baht from foreign visitors. While Thailand welcomed over 27 million visitors in 2023, surpassing the government’s target, there was a decrease in Chinese visitors, largely due to China’s slow economy impacting international travel. However, there has been a noticeable shift towards domestic tourism within the country.
To strengthen relations and facilitate tourism, both Thailand and China have decided to permanently waive visa requirements for their citizens, starting from March 1. This move aims to create more opportunities for tourists from both countries and boost tourism between them.
