Sony bangkok one March 30 2024

Sony Group has inaugurated a new semiconductor manufacturing plant in Thailand to ramp up the production of automotive image sensors. The facility, located in Pathum Thani province, is set to generate 2,000 job opportunities by 2026, with engineers accounting for 20% of the workforce. Moreover, the plant has been designed with scalability in mind to meet the growing demand in the future.

In addition to manufacturing image sensors for driver-assistance systems, the plant will also produce laser diodes for high-capacity hard disk drives. Sony has invested $66 million in this project and aims to capture a market share of 39% by 2025. The company plans to recruit engineers from local Thai universities, leveraging the skilled workforce in the region.

Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation has commenced operations at the new facility, named “Building 4,” which will focus on semiconductor assembly processes, including the production of image sensors for automotive applications and display devices. This move is expected to create job opportunities and contribute to the semiconductor industry’s growth in Thailand. Furthermore, Sony is committed to sustainable practices in this endeavor, such as utilizing 100% renewable energy sources and implementing energy-efficient technologies. The completion of Building 4 is anticipated to enrich Sony’s product offerings and support the sustainable development of its business.
