Thai Gaming Market Eyes 36.1 Billion Baht in 2025 Amid Challenges
BANGKOK – April 16, 2025 — Thailand’s computer games market is projected to hit 36.1 billion baht this year, up 1.6% from 2024, according to Kasikorn Research Center (K-Research). Growth is driven by rising player numbers, new game launches — particularly AAA titles — and promotional campaigns by game providers.
However, the industry faces headwinds, including:
- A slowing economy impacting consumer spending
- Skill shortages in game development
- Funding constraints for Thai developers
- Growing reliance on generative AI by global firms
Key Highlights:
- Thailand had over 42 million gaming accounts in 2024 — up 10% annually since 2023.
- Mobile games dominate the market, making up 58.3% of total value, with spending expected to rise 1.8% in 2025.
- Spending on PC (26.4%) and console/handheld games (15.3%) is also set to increase, driven by players with greater purchasing power.
- Thai game developers saw a 43.6% drop in sales last year, largely due to competition from imported games.
- Popular genres include MOBA, sports, FPS, and geolocation-based RPGs.
- Investment in Thai game development is challenged by long payback periods, high wages, and lack of talent in key areas like coding, marketing, and business strategy.
K-Research emphasized the need for stronger support for local developers to keep up with global innovations, especially those using GenAI for game design, storytelling, and player analytics.
