MRTA Grounds Construction at Vajira Hospital Site Following Road Subsidence; Investigation in Progress on Purple Line Tunnel Work.

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) has assumed responsibility for the road subsidence that occurred on September 24 in front of Vajira Hospital on Samsen Road, Dusit, Bangkok, near the Vajira Hospital Station (PP19) construction site on the Purple Line.

The subsidence occurred in an area covered by Contract 1, which involves designing and building tunnels and underground stations along the 4.8 km section from Taopoon to the National Library, with a contract value of 19.43 billion baht. The project contractor for this section is the CKST-PL Joint Venture, comprising CH. Karnchang Public Company Limited and Sino-Thai Engineering & Construction Public Company Limited.

Following the incident, construction activities at the site have been immediately halted to allow for an investigation into the cause. MRTA Governor Gardphajon Udomdhammabhakdi, accompanied by Ministry of Transport officials, visited the site to oversee the response efforts.

The MRTA has coordinated with various utility providers, including the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA), Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), telecommunications companies, and local police, to manage the situation effectively. Additionally, traffic control measures have been implemented around the area to ensure public safety and facilitate smooth movement.
