A recent survey by Suan Dusit Poll found that traffic congestion and affordable public transportation are the top concerns among Bangkok residents ahead of the upcoming gubernatorial election.

The poll, conducted between May 6–8 among 1,074 eligible voters, showed that nearly 29% of respondents want a city with reduced traffic congestion and lower-cost mass transit options. Meanwhile, around 24% prioritised cleaner streets and safer, obstacle-free footpaths.

The survey comes ahead of the June 28 elections for Bangkok governor and the Bangkok City Council, with the current administration’s term set to end on May 21.

According to the poll, approximately 56.7% of respondents support incumbent governor Chadchart Sittipunt serving another four-year term. Although he has not officially confirmed his candidacy, sources indicate he is expected to run.

For the Bangkok City Council election, about 40.1% of voters said they plan to support candidates from the People’s Party, while 21.23% favoured independent candidates.

Pornpan Buathong said Mr Chadchart continues to maintain strong public support, adding that the main challenge for candidates will be transforming public expectations into practical and achievable policies.

Mr Chadchart secured more than 1.3 million votes in the 2022 election — the highest number ever recorded for a winning Bangkok governor candidate since records began in 1989.
