A 400 million baht refurbishment being done as part of the Old Siam Plaza’s 30th anniversary celebrations

The three-story market will become a “lifestyle shopping and business hub” thanks to developer Siam Sindhorn’s plans.

The Old Siam Plaza, which opened in 1993, is well-known among both locals and visitors to Bangkok as a treasure trove of Thai silk and authentic cuisine and desserts.

The colonial-style structures built during the reign of King Rama V (1853–1910) served as inspiration for the plaza’s distinctive architecture. The Tri Phet, Burapha, Phahurat, and Charoen Krung highways encircle it, giving it a good location.

Yaowarat (Chinatown) and Pak Khlong Talat (the flower market) are located in the same neighborhood as the Old Siam in Phra Nakhon. Additionally, it is adjacent to Sam Yot MRT station and includes parking for over 1,100 vehicles. After thirty years of serving as a traditional shopping destination for Bangkokians, Siam Sindhorn aims to “give a new look” to The Old Siam.

According to Apichai Siridumrongphun, Siam Sindhorn’s assistant managing director for commercial building business, “The new Old Siam will be a hub of business, lifestyle, shopping, and residences for modern people.” The historic Rattanakosin Island in Bangkok would also be spruced up to welcome more visitors, he added.

Renovating 98,500 square meters of service facilities and 17,945 square meters of the plaza will also involve rezoning to better serve customers and businesses.Thai dessert booths and jewelry dealers and wholesalers will be located on the first floor. One of the biggest apparel markets in the nation will dedicate the second level to Thai silk, evening gowns, and wedding dresses.

The fresh market and food court will be relocated to the third floor and rearranged according to various themes.

Residential space will be located on the top floor, with 128 opulent apartments starting at 95 square meters. Meeting rooms, a fitness center, and a sky pavilion are among the amenities that the 13,000 sq m residential complex will have to offer working professionals, business travelers, and contemporary families seeking a city lifestyle and easy access to transportation.

According to Apichai, the refurbished Old Siam Plaza will be the largest mixed-use project on Rattanakosin Island, with 13.6 rai (2.176 hectares).
