A Cargolux Boeing 747 cargo makes an emergency landing while losing its landing gear.

A Cargolux Boeing 747-400F freighter suffered considerable damage after an emergency landing when the right body landing gear bogie came loose.

When more than two wheels are connected to a landing gear strut, a bogie is employed as the connecting device.

On May 14, 2023, a flight from Luxembourg Airport (LUX) to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) was planned using the 23-year-old Boeing 747-400 with the registration code LX-OCV.However, Cargolux stated in a news release that after departing from LUX airport, the aircraft was unable to retract its landing gear.

The choice was taken to head back to the LUX airport. The enormous jet, however, was loaded with enough fuel for a long journey, so in order to attain the maximum landing weight, the aircraft circled the region while dumping gasoline.

Although there were several problems, the plane arrived at LUX airport 52 minutes after taking off.

During the landing roll, the aircraft’s right body landing gear came off. However, the aircraft made a controlled landing and received medical attention, according to the carrier. The landing gear bogie may be seen disengaging before leaving the aircraft in a number of videos of the aircraft’s landing that have been posted on Twitter.

No one on board or on the ground was hurt, according to the flag carrier cargo airline for Luxembourg.

After the event, the runway at LUX airport was closed, requiring numerous flights to divert.

The runway was reopened and operations have resumed, according to the airport manager, at 00:53 local time on May 15, 2023.
