Air Algerie expands fleet with A330NEO and A350 orders

In order to expand its commercial operations and support fleet expansion goals. Algeria’s national airline has placed a definite order with global manufacturer Airbus for seven widebody aircraft.

The delivery of the five A330neos and two A350-1000s that Air Algérie has ordered is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025. In order to conduct flights on a variety of intra-African and transcontinental routes, the airline is now able to fully capitalize on the diversity of Airbus products.

Air Algérie made a superb decision.

Some of the most technologically sophisticated airplanes are the A330 and A350, which have been popular choices for many airlines. By using these widebody aircraft, Air Algérie will see operational savings like a 25% reduction in fuel consumption per seat and increased flexibility provided by the special features of Airbus aircraft.

The aircraft also has an award-winning Airspace cabin, which provides guests with exceptional levels of luxury and opulent atmosphere. The A330 and A350 are projected to accommodate between 280 and 320 and 350 to 450 passengers, respectively. The airline has not yet revealed the cabin configuration that will be employed.

The North African airline operates a mixed-fleet of 56 aircraft, eight of which are A330-200s. The new purchase represents a crucial turning point that will fortify Airbus and Air Algérie’s established alliance. Vice President of Africa and the Middle East at Airbus said;

Current-generation aircraft

The two Airbus widebody aircraft that Air Algérie has ordered are from the most recent generation. Two potent Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines give the A330neo family’s aircraft a range of 13,334 nautical miles. The A330 family was the most popular widebody family by May 2023, with 1,775 confirmed orders from 130 global customers.

The most modern and fuel-efficient aircraft family in the world includes the A350. Its most recent Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines enable it to travel more than 16,000 miles without stopping. Airbus continued to rule the long-haul market by receiving 967 firm orders for the A350 from 54 customers by May 2023.

Air Algérie pledges to decarbonize and lessen the environmental impact of air travel by replacing outdated aircraft with these cutting-edge planes. As the agreement follows Lufthansa’s recent order of ten A350-1000s, it will join an exclusive group of airline operators.

More purchases of aircraft

The recent agreement between Air Algérie and Boeing for the purchase of eight 737 MAX aircraft, which will begin deliveries in 2027, precedes the Airbus agreement. The carrier is planning to expand to become one of the largest airlines operating on the continent now that African aviation has nearly fully recovered from the pandemic.

Ten narrow- and wide-body aircraft are also on the flag carrier’s wish list for dry leasing. The airline has continued its hunt for new lessors, hence the deadline for offers has been extended until this week. In order to increase passenger service and cargo capacity through the belly hold, Air Algérie’s fleet is anticipated to have nearly doubled by 2030.
