Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has signed an order, known as Por 12, instructing firearms registrars to stop issuing licences to carry guns for one year in an effort to reduce gun violence. This measure, in accordance with the Firearms, Ammunition, Explosive, Fireworks and Imitation Firearms Act, will be sent to the Prime Minister and Finance Minister for approval.
The order will not affect state officials such as police who are allowed to carry firearms while on duty. The decision comes after a series of deadly shootings in Bangkok sparked demands for stricter gun control measures.
