Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt personally examined pavements for disabled people to access

Before going to Sukhumvit Soi 2 to check on improvement work at the entrance to Benchakitti Park, he also examined the work being done to improve a pathway between Bang Chak and Onnut BTS stations.

All of these initiatives are a part of the governor’s “Liveable City for All” strategy, which strives to make public amenities easily accessible to Bangkok citizens. Additionally, he wants to improve wheelchair accessibility and independence for blind travelers. The project will be carried out by the city’s Civil Department using a universal design to assist wheelchair users, who need broader entrances and routes.

In addition, footpaths and bridges will have textured surfaces to aid the blind, and slopes will be of an acceptable steepness to aid the elderly. The governor continued by saying that the repair project would also involve relocating electrical and telephone switch boxes so they wouldn’t obstruct walkers, as well as placing communication and electrical wires underground when this is feasible.Additionally, district offices are responsible for regularly using water to clean the roads and footpaths in their region.

City officials have also been instructed to keep an eye on pathways and make sure that the pedestrian path is not blocked by election banners and posters with the general election drawing near. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) intends to upgrade 1,000 kilometers of walkways across all 50 districts, with each district receiving priority improvements based on its traffic volume.

The city administration is supporting the disabled in other ways, such as by hiring them as city officials and offering one-stop healthcare services at BMA hospitals and clinics, according to Chadchart, to ensure Bangkok is truly a liveable city for everyone.
