Bangkok set to shiver as temperature to go down to 20 degrees Celsius

People living in Bangkok will get a taste of cold weather tonight, when the temperature in the capital is expected is forecast to fall to 20oC, according to Dr. Royol Chitradon, director of the Hydro Informatics Institute.

He said that one noticeable sign of imminent cold weather is the high level of dust in the atmosphere, due to poor air circulation caused by the convergence of northerly and southerly winds, adding that the cold conditions will last for about three days and PM2.5 is likely to increase.

Meanwhile, the air quality in four areas in Bangkok today has reached the Red level, with the amount of PM2.5 pollution measured at 82.4μg in Phra Khanong, 77.5μg in Bang Na, 77μg in Nong Khaem and 75.8μg in Bangkok Yai, according to the “Check Foon” application.

PM2.5 has also reached the Red level in Samut Songkhram (103.1μg), Samut Sakhon (100.1μg) and Nakhon Pathom (75.5μg).

In 33 other provinces, PM2.5 dust has reached the Orange level. 46 areas in Bangkok have also reported Orange levels of dust in the atmosphere.

According to the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), 215 hotspots were detected across Thailand on Tuesday, mostly in farm land (77), national forest reserves (54), in land reform areas (44), in communities and three along highways (22).

Phetchabun province had the most hotspots (17), followed by Lop Buri (16) and Kanchanaburi (13).

1,579 hotspots were detected in Cambodia, 231 in Myanmar, 129 in Laos and 81 in Vietnam.
