Bangkok is halting several services for migrant workers until after the general election to guarantee that voting goes off without a hitch.
Chatree Wattanakhajorn, the city’s deputy permanent secretary, announced on Friday that services like as registration, updating records, and issuing ID cards to workers from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam will be suspended until May 15. The change is intended to ensure that all district offices can handle the additional activity in the run-up to the election and that there are no bottlenecks, according to Chatree.
All services will resume as usual on May 16.
Voters in Bangkok and the remaining 76 provinces will vote for constituency and party-list MPs on Sunday, May 14 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
