During Songkran, the public is reminded to remain wary of online scams.

Members of the public are encouraged to be on the lookout for online scammers who will use five well-known techniques to prey on potential victims during the Songkran holiday next week.

Pol Lt-Col Noppawan Panya, Deputy Spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, stated today (Saturday) that they include the following:

Promising to sell air conditioners, electric fans, or air purifiers on the condition that clients transfer the money first, but then refusing to deliver the items. Alternately, clients pay for the goods upon delivery only to discover that they are substandard or not the same as described.

Providing package tours for domestic or international vacations on the condition that buyers make prior payments. The trip operators vanish after collecting money.

Providing cheap or free air tickets or discounted electricity rates in exchange for clients downloading their applications and entering their personal information, such as ID card numbers, phone numbers, or birth dates. Customers rapidly notice that money has vanished from their accounts after downloading the program.

Employment opportunities for students over their long vacations, or investment opportunities with high returns. If the target accepts the proposals and transfers money to the scammers, the money will be lost.

Offers for low-interest loans or employment with the requirement that people interested send money to the scammers to “show that they can service the loans.”
