Routes out of Bangkok that are recommended during Songkran

The Roads Department has suggested alternate routes for vehicles planning to depart Bangkok for the Songkran holiday next week.

Sarawut Songsivilai, the department’s director-general, stated that the department is prepared to assist motorists in traveling safely and easily between April 11th and 17th.

The government anticipates that almost seven million vehicles would travel throughout the seven-day period, representing a 5.3% increase over last year. The most vehicles are set to leave Bangkok on April 12th, with over 640,000 expected. On the return voyage, around 610,000 automobiles are expected on April 16th.

There are eight recommended routes from Bangkok to the north. These are some examples:

Route 1 connects Bangkok with Rangsit, Ayutthaya, Ang Thong, Sing Buri, and the Manorom district before reaching Nakhon Sawan.
Route 2 connects Bangkok to Nonthaburi, then to Suphan Buri, Chainat, and Nakhon Sawan.
Bangkok to Rangsit, Wang Noi district, Saraburi, Lop Buri, Tak Fah district, Phitsanuloke, Phichit, Sukhothai, and Uttaradit via Route 3.
Route 4 from Bangkok to Rangsit, then to Chiang Rak Noi, where it connects with Highways 347 and 32 to the north.
Route 5 connects Bangkok to the Eastern Ring Road, the Wang Noi neighborhood, Highway 309, and Highway 32 to the north.
Route 6 from Bangkok to the Eastern Ring Road, Highway 3214, 347 into Ayutthaya’s Bang Pahan area and further north.
Route 7 from Bangkok to Udon Ratthaya highway, then into Highway 347 toward Bang Pahan area.
Route 8 from Bangkok to Udon Ratthaya highway onto Highway 347 toward Bang Pa-in via Thammasat University Rangsit campus.


There are three routes to the south:

Bangkok to Phetchaburi, Samut Sakhon, and Prachuap Khiri Khan.
Bangkok to Nakhon Pathom’s Samphran district, Ratchaburi, Phetchaburi, and Prachuap Khiri Khan.
Bangkok to Nakhon Chai Sri district, Nakhon Pathom, Ratchaburi, Phetchaburi, and Prachuap Khiri Khan via Borommaratchachonnani Road.


There are five routes to the north-east:

From Bangkok, take Highway 1 to Saraburi, then Highways 2256, 2148, and 2 into Nakhon Ratchasima.
Route 2 connects Bangkok to the Wang Noi district, Saraburi, and the Pak Chong district, and then to Nakhon Ratchasima.
Route 3 connects Bangkok to Nakhon Nayok, Ban Na, Khaeng Khoi, and Pak Chong districts, and then to Nakhon Ratchasima.
Route 4 travels from Bangkok to Chachoengsao, Phanom Sarakham district, Kabin Buri district, Wang Nam Khieu district, and Pak Thong Chai district before arriving in Nakhon Ratchasima.
Route 4 connects Bangkok to Wang Noi, Saraburi, Pak Chong, and Si Khieu districts, and Highway 6 connects Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima.
There are four routes to the east:

Special Highway 7 connects Bangkok with Chon Buri.
Highway 34 connects Bangkok to Bang Pakong, and Highway 3 connects Bangkok to Chon Buri.
Highway 304 connects Bangkok’s Route 3 to the Phanat Nikhom district and Chon Buri.
Route 4 from Bangkok via the Bang Na-Chon Buri elevated highway, then Highway 3 to Chon Buri.
