Ex-legal officer caught for embezzling 10 million baht in Bangkok

Police have arrested a former senior legal officer of the Social Security Office, accused of embezzling over 10 million baht from the social security fund. The suspect, who had been on the run, was captured on February 13 while working at a shop in the Rama 9 area of Bangkok.

Poomwisal Kasemsuk, Secretary-General of the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC), along with other PACC officials and Police Lieutenant Colonel Siripong Sritula, assisted by the Anti-Corruption Division, coordinated the arrest. The operation followed a warrant issued by the Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases after an investigation revealed the suspect’s involvement in the financial misconduct.

The suspect, who had previously served as a senior legal officer at the Social Security Office under the Ministry of Labour in Bangkok, allegedly forged official documents to falsely present herself as having authority over social security fund contributions. This led to a financial loss of 10,085,300.50 baht for the Social Security Office.

After the suspect failed to appear before the prosecutor within the allotted time frame, an arrest warrant was issued, and authorities eventually located her working at a shop in the Rama 9 subdistrict of Suan Luang district. The PACC worked with the Anti-Corruption Division to capture the suspect and proceed with legal actions.

In a separate case, a Bangkok couple employed by prominent lawyer Sittra Biabungkerd has been arrested for allegedly embezzling 39 million baht from a Thai Euromillions lottery winner. This arrest marks a significant development in an ongoing investigation into financial misconduct.
