Flight Information System Malfunction Disrupts Real-Time Updates for Passengers at Hong Kong Airport

Flight Information System Malfunction Disrupts Real-Time Updates for Passengers at Hong Kong Airport

On Sunday morning, Hong Kong International Airport experienced a “computer system failure” causing disruptions in real-time flight information updates, both on display screens and online through its website and mobile apps.

Passengers were advised by the Airport Authority to allow extra time for check-in processes and to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the most up-to-date flight information.

The issue was attributed to a “fault related to the flight information display system,” with the Airport Emergency Centre activated and contingency plans put into action.

According to sources, the malfunction began early in the morning, resulting in delays in providing real-time updates for arriving and departing passengers, with no specific timeline for resolution.

To manage the situation, whiteboards were set up in restricted areas of the airport for manual display of flight updates.

Notably, the airport’s mobile app lacked gate information and boarding statuses for most flights scheduled to depart at 9:55 am local time (8:55 am Thailand time). Additionally, several flights departing between 7:15 am and 10 am still showed “boarding” as their status.
