Unidentified gunmen shot dead a former village headman, his wife, and two other persons at a residence in the Khiri Rat Nikhom district of the southern province of Surat Thani yesterday (Saturday).
Police have named three of the dead as Thammarong Nilniyom, a former village head, his wife Nilthip, and Pornsak Petchu, another former village head. The fourth was not identified. The bodies were discovered in the house.
A police squad lead by Pol Col Kriengkrai Kraikaew, superintendent of Khiri Rat Nikhom district police, hurried to the scene in Kapao sub-district after being informed about a gunshot. More than 90 expended shells from automatic firearms were discovered scattered throughout the residence.
The police stated the motive for the shooting is being examined, but Thammarong had previously been shot and wounded.
