Hainan Airlines to order 20 A330-900

Hainan Airlines to order 20 A330-900

Hainan Airlines (HU, Haikou) is reportedly in the process of finalizing an acquisition deal for as many as twenty A330-900N aircraft. Although no official statement regarding the aircraft order has been issued, a stock market filing by Hainan Airlines Holding on March 29, 2024, discloses a significant expenditure at Safran Cabins Germany GmbH for the assembly of galley kitchen equipment intended for the specified aircraft model.

The filing outlines the company’s intention to procure 20 sets of aircraft cabin kitchen equipment from Safran for installation in the A330-900 fleet. The total transaction value is capped at a maximum of USD 23.592 million.

While Hainan Airlines currently operates A330-200 and A330-300 aircraft, with nine and 20 units of each type respectively, this prospective order marks the first substantial acquisition since Liaoning Fangda Group Industrial Group took over Hainan Airlines in late 2021 following the bankruptcy filing of the previous owner, HNA Group.

Apart from the A330 series, Hainan Airlines manages a fleet that includes a single A350-900, fourteen B737-8s, 135 B737-800s, ten B787-8s, and twenty-eight B787-9s. The airline, as detailed in the ch-aviation PRO airlines module, serves 119 airports across 26 countries.

In a recent earnings projection, Hainan Airlines Holdings expressed optimism about the civil aviation market’s recovery, particularly in the Chinese domestic sector. While specific references to potential aircraft orders were not made, the filing emphasized the airline’s proactive stance in capitalizing on market opportunities and enhancing its operational capacity.
