Bangkok, Thailand – Don Ng Sheung Tung, a third-grade student from Nord Anglia International School Hong Kong, has made a remarkable impression at the international academic competitions held in Bangkok, winning top honors in mathematics and demonstrating impressive aptitude in science. His victories include the global championship at the World Mathematics Cup (WMC), the Asian Mathematics Champions League (AMCL) title, and the prestigious SIMSOlVER Cup at the Siam International Mathematics and Science Olympics (SIMSO).
“I feel very honored and privileged to be here during the holidays,” said a humble Don, reflecting on his impressive achievements. He described the two-day competition period as a vibrant and enjoyable experience, likening the atmosphere to a “big party” where participants shared a common passion for learning. At the WMC, Don tackled challenging logic problems integrated with mathematical principles, an accomplishment he takes particular pride in. He credits the competition with helping him develop new mental strategies and maintain a positive competitive mindset.

Winning the AMCL presented its own set of challenges. “I had to race against time to answer all questions in all three parts,” Don explained. His key to success? “Get enough sleep to keep my mind clear and focused. Make key points and steps form pictures in a fun way.” This visualization technique clearly paid off.
The SIMSO competition, where Don won the coveted SIMSOlVER Cup, was a highlight of his trip. He expressed gratitude for the well-organized event and the inspiring prize, which he believes motivates participants to strive for excellence in both math and science. Remarkably, Don even competed against and triumphed over fourth-grade students in mathematics. “I trust my HK team’s teachers and followed their advice to take this challenge,” he said. “I feel extremely proud.”
Despite his young age, Don also displayed a strong aptitude for science. “I like science because it is related to our daily lives and helps us know more about our world,” he explained.
Looking towards the future, Don remains open to possibilities, expressing a desire to continue excelling in both math and science. “I don’t know yet whether I want to be a mathematician or a scientist,” he admitted. “I will keep trying my best in both math and science; it is really fun.”
He offers valuable advice to other aspiring young academics: “Ask questions proactively to your teachers; you will discover many ways to solve problems. Keep a positive attitude.”
Don concluded with an inspiring message: “If you are good at math and science, work hard, and you will be the next champion!” His remarkable achievements in Bangkok serve as a testament to the power of hard work, a positive attitude, and the guidance of dedicated teachers. Don Ng Sheung Tung of Nord Anglia International School Hong Kong is undoubtedly a name to watch in the future world of math and science.
