Bangkok Leaps From 13th to First Place
Bangkok has been named the world's best city for nightlife in 2026 by Time Out, jumping from 13th place in last year's ranking to take the top spot ahead of Berlin, New York City, Melbourne and Sao Paulo. The ranking was based on a survey of more than 24,000 residents across 150 cities worldwide, combined with input from more than 100 Time Out editors and city experts, weighing factors including nightlife quality, affordability, sense of community, and how exciting, lively, diverse, welcoming and safe each city feels after dark.
The Thai capital scored particularly well with locals: 73% of Bangkok respondents rated the city's nightlife as "good" or "amazing," and the same share said it was easy to find connection and community after dark. Time Out's expert panel gave Bangkok a 95% approval score. The win follows Bangkok placing eighth on Time Out's broader list of the world's best cities for 2026 and second among Asian cities.
Rooftop Bars, Street Food and Soi Nana Nightlife Praised
Time Out singled out Bangkok's range of nightlife options, from rooftop bars and large clubs to neighbourhood cocktail bars, street-side drinking spots and late-night food outlets, as well as LGBTQ+ venues. Chinatown's Soi Nana was highlighted for venues including G.O.D, Tep Bar and Ba Hao, alongside clubs such as Sing Sing Theater, while new rooftop openings such as AETHER on the 44th floor of Dusit Central Park and Sato San on the 32nd floor of Moxy Bangkok Ratchaprasong drew attention.
The city's late-night food culture was also cited as a strength, with visitors able to move between rooftop bars, neighbourhood venues and street-food stalls serving dishes such as pad kaphrao into the small hours. Silom was noted for its LGBTQ+-friendly scene. The full top 10 for 2026 reads Bangkok, Berlin, New York City, Melbourne, Sao Paulo, Medellin, Johannesburg, Brighton, Beijing and Amsterdam.
