The completion timeline for the MRT Orange Line, connecting Bangkok’s east and west, is set for November 2030, with the eastern section potentially opening by 2028.
Transport Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit oversaw the signing of the investment contract between the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) and Bangkok Expressway and Metro Plc (BEM) for the MRT Orange Line Project “Bang Khun Non-Min Buri (Suwinthawong).”
Key officials present included Department of Rail Transport chief Pichet Kunadhamraks, MRTA board chairman Sarawut Songsivilai, and BEM board chairman Plew Trivisvavet.
Minister Suriya emphasized the government’s focus on enhancing the country’s transport infrastructure for improved convenience. The contract signing signifies a significant step in public-private sector collaboration.

BEM’s managing director, Sombat Kitjalaksana, expressed readiness to commence construction upon contract finalization. Anticipated passenger numbers suggest 150,000 daily riders in the first year of the eastern section’s operation, growing to 400,000 upon full line completion.
The MRT Orange Line will consist of a 22.5km eastern section with 17 stations and a 13.4km western section with 11 stations, connecting key locations such as Thailand Cultural Centre, Min Buri (Suwinthawong), Bang Khun Non, and more.
