Over 100,000 Emirates workers receive substantial bonuses.

In the past, when the airline had a successful year, Emirates has offered profit sharing to its staff. The company’s executives decide what to do in this situation; there is no set formula. Employees are being compensated exceptionally since the airline performed so well in the most recent financial year.

According to the airline based in Dubai, each employee would receive a bonus equal to 24 weeks’ worth of wages. Yes, it means every employee at Emirates will receive a bonus equal to over 50% of their base pay.

When Emirates has historically performed well, the airline has given staff bonuses equivalent to several weeks’ worth of pay. For instance, the airline provided bonuses to staff members amounting to five weeks’ worth of compensation for the 2017–2018 fiscal year. While this was happening, profits in 2018–2019 dropped by 69%, and employees received no bonuses. Profit sharing was likewise minimal during the pandemic, as might be expected.No airline that I can recall ever gave its staff profit sharing that represented such a sizable portion of their pay.

In the US, Delta is well recognized for its profit-sharing program. According to the company’s model, it will distribute 20% of its annual profits beyond $2.5 billion and 10% of the first $2.5 billion in profits each year. For instance, in 2019 that was equivalent to over 17% of staff compensation. Even that isn’t quite as generous as what Emirates is presently providing to its employees.

It’s absolutely wonderful to see this from Emirates.

The employment policies of Gulf carriers are frequently criticized. Emirates typically performs a really good job looking after staff, and this is a clear indication of that, even though I believe certain criticisms are justified. A corporation can be kind to employees even in the absence of a union or collective bargaining agreement.

Given the difficult several years it has been for workers in the business, I don’t believe any Emirates employees were expecting profit sharing that was nearly 50% of their pay. I’m sure this will greatly boost morale at the airline. Over the next few days, I anticipate that employees will be very content.

Many Emirates employees reside in Dubai while their family remain in their country of origin. Receiving this kind of incentive will significantly improve the lives of Emirates employees, many of whom serve as the family’s sole provider.

Emirates recorded a record $2.9 billion profit, and the airline is congratulating its staff by giving them profit-sharing that is equal to 24 weeks of pay. This is a good gift for many hardworking people after a challenging few years for the sector.
