Oxford United is set to extend their promotion celebrations with a festive open-top bus parade across the city. Following their triumphant 2-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers, the team secured a promotion to the EFL Championship after 25 years.
The Oxford City Council has revealed plans for the victory parade, scheduled to commence on Monday from The Plain at 17:55 BST. The route will wind through Magdalen Bridge, along the High Street, concluding at Oxford Town Hall. Council Leader Susan Brown expressed her excitement in welcoming Oxford United to the Town Hall for the celebration.
Fans are encouraged to line the parade route fully but are advised against congregating at St Aldate’s. The parade will not feature public speeches or a formal stage setup.
To mark the club’s promotion, Oxford City Council will proudly fly the Oxford United flag over the 1930s Town Hall extension on Monday. Jim Goddard, head of safety and operations at Oxford United FC, expressed gratitude to all involved in organizing the event and looks forward to celebrating alongside the city of Oxford in honor of coach Des Buckingham and the team’s accomplishments.
Liz Leffman, leader of Oxfordshire County Council, extended her heartfelt congratulations to the team and acknowledged the club’s remarkable journey back to English football’s top tiers from days of non-league football. She commended the fervor of the fans and expressed joy at witnessing the team’s return to elite football.
During the parade, road closures will be enforced at Longwall Street and the junction of St Aldate’s and Pembroke Street, with additional closures along the route as the parade advances.
