Plane crash in Chachoengsao believe to be carrying 5 Hong Kong tourist that perished

A small passenger plane crashed Thursday afternoon shortly after taking off from Suvarnabhumi airport, as announced by the country’s civil aviation authority. It is believed that all nine individuals on board perished in the incident.

Rescue teams reported no survivors at the crash site, which is located in a mangrove swamp in Chachoengsao province, approximately 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the airport. There were seven passengers and two pilots on the flight.

After searching for about an hour, rescuers discovered severely fragmented body parts in the challenging, swampy terrain, as stated by a spokesperson for the provincial government.

The names of those aboard have not been released yet. However, the spokesperson noted that the group included five Chinese tourists from Hong Kong, in addition to two Thai female crew members and the Thai pilot and co-pilot. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand reported that the turboprop plane, a Cessna Caravan C208B operated by Thai Flying Service Company, took off from Suvarnabhumi Airport at 2:46 p.m. (0746 GMT). Air traffic control lost radio and radar contact with the aircraft just 11 minutes later when it was approximately 35 kilometers (22 miles) southeast of the airport, en route to Trat, a coastal province about 275 kilometers (171 miles) southeast of the capital.

Footage from the scene revealed heavily damaged pieces of the plane submerged in water within a wooded area.

According to the Chachoengsao provincial spokesperson, further searches are progressing slowly due to the onset of darkness and rising tides that have inundated the crash site with additional water.
