Police shut down illegal torrent website

Siambit Bangkok one Feb 19 2024

The Royal Thai Police’s Economic Crimes Department, with the support of the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), has carried out raids at four different locations in Bangkok, Surin Province, and Surat Thani. Siambit.me, recognized as Thailand’s largest torrent tracker site, has been averaging 5.5 million monthly visits. The site offered access to a broad array of Hollywood, International, and Thai content.

It has been in operation since 2005 and frequently changed its domain to avoid detection. According to the Royal Thai Police, Siambit.me had garnered over 100,000 VIP members, with the operators reportedly earning an estimated 1.5 million baht (USD$41,000) monthly. As a result of these actions, four Thai nationals have been apprehended and are anticipated to face formal charges related to copyright offenses in the coming days.
