Reports state that Thai Airways is considering combining Thai Smile with the mainline brand.

Thai Airways’ wholly owned subsidiary Thai Smile is a regional airline. The regional carrier, which was launched in 2011 when there was a demand for a carrier like this, focused on low-cost regional operations. The epidemic had a severe impact on the sector. Companies were compelled to make important adjustments to their operations in order to streamline, improve efficiency, and reduce losses. As a result, Thai Airways has undertaken a restructure that will cause the corporation to focus on business consolidation.

Thai Smile apparently operates with far too few airplanes, especially with equipment utilization at an all-time low, to justify its operations at this time. It only utilizes an A320-200 fleet, which has an average age of 9.3 years. Thai Airways will consider incorporating the brand into its mainline fleet as the activities have been shown to be unprofitable.

As a result, the 20 A320-200s operating under the Thai Smiles moniker would transfer to Thai Airways and be used on missions with a similar payload. It would be hoped to boost utilization to a point where operating an airplane would be advantageous.Thai Airways has been reorganizing, therefore it is decided that dropping the Thai Smile brand will be worthwhile and better for customers.

Thailand, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and India are among the countries served by Thai Smile. It offered little over 3,000 flights during April, according to figures from Cirium. Bangkok to Chiang Mai was next in popularity, then Bangkok to Phuket. Bangkok to Phnom Penh was the company’s greatest gainer, with 120 flights planned for April 2023, more than double the 60 scheduled for that month in 2022.
