In Bangkok’s Bang Khen district, police apprehended eight individuals suspected of being loan sharks sharing a residence on Sunday.
Commander of the Crime Suppression Division, Pol Maj Gen Montree Theskhan, mentioned that a search warrant prompted the raid on a house located on Phahon Yothin 59 Road. This action followed a complaint from a vendor who reported facing physical assault threats for not meeting a 2% daily interest payment to the group.
The eight suspects found in the house faced charges related to unlawfully operating a lending business and engaging in exorbitant loan interest practices. The gang leader, identified as Mr. Montri, aged 43, was among those arrested.
During the raid, law enforcement discovered firearms, ammunition, debtors’ lists and ID cards, vehicles purportedly used by debt collectors, loan-related materials, and bank accounts containing transactions exceeding 20 million baht.
While suspect Montri acknowledged the illegal lending operation conducted by his gang, he claimed that all detained individuals worked for a Thai loan shark who remains at large.
