Thailand Aim to Keep Clean Sheet Streak Alive
Thailand's national football team take on the Philippines on Tuesday, August 4, in their third Group B match of the 2026 ASEAN Championship, with kick-off at 8pm Thailand time (9pm local) at the New Clark City Athletic Stadium in Capas, Philippines. The War Elephants head into the match with a perfect record, having beaten Laos 5-0 and Malaysia 2-0 without conceding a single goal, and sit top of the five-team group with six points from two games.
Head coach Anthony Hudson is expected to continue relying on his settled attacking pairing of Teerasil Dangda and Yodsakorn Burapha, with Sarach Yooyen orchestrating the midfield and Manuel Tom Bihr marshalling the defence. Thailand have historically dominated this fixture, winning five of their seven previous meetings with the Philippines in the competition, with the Philippines' only win coming in the first leg of their 2024 semi-final.
Philippines Need a Result to Stay in Contention
The Philippines, ranked 135th in the world against Thailand's 94th, come into the match sitting fourth in the group on three points after a 4-1 win over Laos was followed by an opening 1-4 defeat to Myanmar. Head coach Carles Cuadrat's side will lean on forward Harvey Gayoso, the tournament's joint-top scorer for the Philippines with two goals, as they look to close the gap on the semi-final places.
Cuadrat acknowledged the scale of the challenge, saying his side had been "fighting with a lot of mental challenges" after difficult moments in their opening two games and would need to overcome that against a much higher-ranked opponent. A win for Thailand would all but confirm their place in the last four, while the Philippines are fighting to keep their own qualification hopes alive with two group games still to play. Thailand's campaign continues on August 8 with a home fixture against Myanmar at Rajamangala National Stadium, before the ASEAN Championship semi-finals get under way from August 15.
