Thai Workers Outpace Global Peers in AI Usage

Thailand has emerged as one of the fastest-moving countries in the world for workplace artificial intelligence use, according to Microsoft's 2026 Work Trend Index. The report found that serious AI adoption among Thai professionals climbed from 9.1 percent in early 2025 to 12.4 percent in the first quarter of 2026, giving the country the second-highest growth rate globally behind only one other market.

Around 32 percent of Thai respondents now qualify as "Frontier Professionals," or advanced AI users, double the global average of 16 percent, while AI usage among data-focused workers has also climbed to 32 percent. Microsoft researchers noted that 89 percent of Thai employees already use AI-generated output as the starting point for their own work, well above the pace of adoption seen across most of the region.

Executives Lead the Push, But a Critical-Thinking Gap Remains

The report also found that 51 percent of Thai executives showed clear direction on AI strategy, roughly double the global average of 26 percent, suggesting leadership buy-in is helping drive the country's rapid uptake. Analysts say that gap in executive commitment, more than access to the technology itself, is what separates fast-adopting markets from slower ones.

Not every indicator is positive. Only 45 percent of Thai workers said critical thinking was essential when collaborating with AI, the lowest share in the region, compared with 65 percent in the Philippines and 62 percent in Indonesia. Researchers and local business groups say that gap points to a need for stronger training in verifying and questioning AI output as adoption accelerates across Thai workplaces.
