In the center of Bangkok, Thai officials detained a 17-year-old guy suspected of participating in a child prostitution ring. The suspect allegedly used “swinging” tactics to entice both male and female kids to buy sexual services. The suspect had previously been apprehended in a human trafficking case, according to a background investigation.

Police Police Lieutenant Colonel Jakree Nareepon, head investigator of the Civil Division, was given the order to lead a team to arrest the suspect by Colonel Theerasak Janthraphiphat, head of the Bangkok Civil Division, along with Deputy Police Lieutenant Colonel Piyarat Wessakoson.

The police planned an entrapment scheme in which they pretended to use Facebook to order sexual services. They agreed to pay each guest 700 Baht plus an extra 1,500 Baht for securing the service providers.

The undercover informant and police officers who were quietly watching the area headed to the hotel at the agreed upon meeting time. Four service providers, ranging in age from 14 to 19, were found “swinging” or having group sex with the suspect. After introducing themselves, the officers took everyone involved into custody to conduct further interrogation. The defendant confessed to the allegations during the initial investigation, saying that the proceeds from such operations were used for personal and recreational needs.

The suspect has already been charged with human trafficking, according to the background investigation. He was therefore delivered to the Chana Songkhram Police Station in order to begin legal proceedings. In Thailand, sex trafficking, notably that of minors, is a serious problem.
