Thai members of a call centre gang arrested in Cambodia

Authorities in Cambodia have detained four Thai nationals on suspicion that they are a part of a contact center gang there that defrauded a Thai family in Samut Prakan, which ultimately led to the family head killing his wife and two children in a fit of rage and attempting suicide.

The arrest of one man and three women who were wanted in Thailand for an alleged online fraud that left the family owing the call center approximately 1.7 million baht was announced to the media this evening (Sunday) by Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn, the deputy national police chief.

He claimed that the man in question is a manager of Thai nationals employed by the contact center and is in charge of convincing people in Thailand to register “mule” bank accounts in order to conduct financial activities.

According to Surachate, 12 further suspects are still at large and might be hiding in Cambodia.

Following allegations that he sold digital coins to a call center gang member, Thai authorities previously detained a 22-year-old Russian national on suspicion of money laundering.
