According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), 10 million international visitors are estimated to have visited Thailand by the end of this month, with at least 2 million coming each month during the off-season.
According to TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn, Thailand consistently records more than 50,000 arrivals every day, indicating that the monthly minimum rate of 2 million tourists during the off-season is attainable.
The TAT is hopeful that the future prime minister would support equitable distribution throughout the tourism supply chain in order to advance tourism once a new government is created. At the moment, only a few groups, mostly big players, profit from the increase in tourism. The competitiveness of the nation would also strengthen with inclusive growth and initiatives to draw top-notch visitors and lengthen their stays.Yuthasak said that there is still a daily cap of 84,000 approvals for Chinese tourists applying for visas. In order to ensure that the Chinese agents are well-prepared with the required paperwork to speed up the approval process, the pertinent authorities are trying to find a solution to this problem and interacting with them through TAT’s China offices.Yuthasak expressed optimism that these challenges would be resolved by the third quarter or by August because the Mice (meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions) segment’s peak season was just around the corner. TAT continues to aim to welcome 5 million Chinese tourists this year as a large number of independent travelers are also traveling via the visa-on-arrival channel in addition to a major increase in airline capacity all year long. With the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization and Thairath, TAT inked a memorandum of agreement yesterday to promote net zero tourism. With a focus on supply chain development and awareness-building through seminars, the agreement seeks to promote collaboration in the tourism sector in order to achieve sustainable tourism goals.
